Abubakar Lawal has about three decades cognate experience in Investment Banking and Corporate Restructuring at local and international levels. Between 1990 and 1993, Abubakar worked at Midas Finance Limited as an Investment Manager before joining City Code Trust Limited. He left City Code in 1995 to join Altrade Securities Limited.

In 1999, Abubakar left Altrade Securities to establish GTI Capital Limited. As the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company he has initiated and actively participated in various landmark capital market transactions with special interest in Corporate Restructuring and Recapitalisation. In 2007, Abubakar championed the transformation of International Breweries Plc from a moribund company to a formidable player in the brewery sector. He was involved in the recapitalization exercise of Eterna Plc and Wema Bank Plc in 2008 and 2011 respectively. Of recent, Abubakar has committed his energy and time in repositioning Morison Industries Plc, as a foremost conglomerate in Nigeria. He conceived and delivered to the Nigeria capital market, the establishment of first Private Trading Floor in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Abubakar currently serves on the board of Wema Bank Plc and National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) Plc. He was a council member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange between 2006 to 2008. He also served as a council member of Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria between 2006 and 2009 before his re-election in 2014.

Abubakar is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Banking & Finance and an MBA in Marketing from the Polytechnic Ibadan and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University respectively. He has numerous international trainings and competence development programs to his credit. He is happily married and loves to play golf
